Hey there! Jax here, well, according to my birth certificate the name’s Jaclyn Arias but since I can tell we are going to be great friends, you can call me Jax. Not Jaclyn, just Jax. I’m a Miami native born and raised but in the near future I plan to move to the Big Apple and take a bite out of the fashion world. But let me tell you, that wasn’t always the plan. I went into college with the intention of studying something math related (because confession time: I’m a huge nerd) that would eventually lead to a stable well-paying job. I know, I know, drastic change but just give me one minute to explain.
My whole life I loved playing dress up and channeling my inner style, but never thought twice about it being an actual career. It was more like hobby that didn’t need to be studied. You were either born with it or you weren’t. So, having the occupation of a stylist was only a fun fantasy for me. Just about as fun and far-fetched as the idea of flying pigs. However, all that thinking went out the door when I turned 18.
In that monumental January, of year 2013, I began my first job as the executive assistant to Angel Bespoke – an elite menswear designer, fancy huh? Well, I didn't think an assistant's job was all that luxurious at the time, but after taking the job something dangerous happened inside of me. Within that year and a half of working for him a passion ignited, a passion for... wait for it, fashion (excuse the corniness, you’ll get used to it.) But it’s true. Suits, brogues and ties (oh my!) took over all of my thoughts. I would sleep, eat, and breathe menswear. I knew there was no going back. This was what my future had in store and I was more than ready for it! So, here I am now, an aspiring fashion stylist with a love for menswear (which explains the lack of dresses in my wardrobe), starting a blog, and applying to fashion school.
Just Jax is a blog exactly about that - Jax, it's about me. In no way should you read, “it’s just Jax” and think a theme song should be playing in the background. No, it’s much simpler than that. I only hope that through my blog I am able to express my personal style and inspire little ol’ you on the other side of the computer screen, to embrace yours. Whole-heartedly and unapologetically! It’s not about brands, or the imprisonment of trends, or even fitting in. It’s about self-expression. After all, Ms. Rachel Zoe herself said, “Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak.” So, I hope you enjoy this journey of mine, and keep a look out for flying pigs.
With love,
JAX
