First is first, Happy New Year! I hope you all had an amazing time ringing in 2015 and are ready to make it your best year yet. I am so sorry I haven’t posted in so long but I’m back and one of my New Year goals (because, let’s be real, “resolutions” are broken by January 2nd) is to post more frequently.
So, I spent the beginning of the month in the most magical place on earth (Disney World), to celebrate the New Year like I do every year for the past four years. We watch the same cover band play a little rock n’ roll at Hollywood Studios and kick off the year with fireworks at midnight. So since it’s only the 15th day of the year I thought it would be best to put together a list of style goals for 2015, because goals are something we are constantly aiming for, where as resolutions we tend to break. So, get ready, because no excuses when it comes to these five things we all need to achieve this year!
1. CLEAN YOUR CLOSET! Yes, we all know very well this needs to be number one. Make it a priority to organize your closet. It will not only look good, but it will make your life a heck of a lot easier. You will no longer have to worry about missing items of clothing, and your mind will be at ease. Try organizing your clothes by categories (ie. sweaters, dresses, pants, and so on) and if you want to get crazy, take it further and organize each category by color. You will be amazed how much faster you will be able to put together an outfit, which leads me to number two.
2. PLAN YOUR OUTFITS. I know we feel like we never have time for this one, but nothing is worse then scrambling in the morning trying on a million things, throwing them on the floor, and taking much longer then you anticipated to pick out your clothes. That only leads to you being late for work, and a messy room. I’m not saying you have to separate your outfits for the week, but maybe think about what your trying to go for at the beginning of the week, get a little Pinterest inspiration, and before going to bed the night before, pick an outfit, try it on to make sure you like how it looks all together, and leave it out for the morning. You will save yourself a headache.
3. TAKE CARE OF YOUR CLOTHES. Make sure you are caring for each item of clothing and accessories properly. That means cleaning your jewelry on a regular basis and following the proper instructions on getting your clothes cleaned. Don’t throw your delicate clothing in the wash with everything else because your in a rush. Take time and take the proper procedures to clean it. If your clothes requires professional cleaning do not procrastinate, or else you run the risk of ruining some of your favorite pieces permanently.
4. GO AND GET YOUR CLOTHING TAILORED. Yes, this can be a bit pricey but it is so worth it. There are so many great pieces in your closet you neglect because they never fit you quite right. All it takes is a quick trip to your trusted tailor or seamstress and the item of clothing could become your next staple piece. You might not want to make room in your budget but in the end it can save you money. Instead of splurging on another pair of black pants, spend a quarter of the price and just take the ones you already own to get fixed. Which leads me to my last point.
5. BUDGET YOUR SHOPPING MONEY. This one is probably the most difficult for myself because I’m a grade "A" shoppoholic. Now I’m not saying not to shop, I’d be the last person to tell you that, but set aside a designated amount of money for shopping and don’t go over. If you see something you absolutely have to have, walk away from it. It’s crazy how in the moment you might think you need something, but once you walk away from it you will realize there is something better to spend your money on. It’s the worse feeling when you buy something on an impulse and then you run into something you love much more and you can’t buy it because you already spent your money on that thing you loved for five minutes. Walking away from what you think you might love gives you time to think, if you still love it after thinking about it long and hard then by all means go back and buy it. Oh, and before you walk away make sure it’s not the last one left, if it is, definitely put it on hold!
I hope you all enjoy working on these goals and start the New Year with a BANG!
With love,
